SEWINGS!! Paper Piecing. I love it…do you?

I’m taking a class in South Carolina…it’s called “Row of the Month”.  It’s taught by my good buddy, Rachel.  Anyhoooooo, several of the ladies were having trouble remembering how to paper piece so I decided to make them (and me) a video.  Have you ever heard the saying that the best way to learn something is to teach it?  Well…. that’s what I’m doing here for all of us.

Just wondering… do YOU love to paper piece? I do!!!

Quilting and Cricut Cardmaking

Today was a lot of fun quilting AND Cricut cardmaking!

The day started with my good buddy, Rachel, coming over! She and I love to get together to work on quilts!  Today was no exception.  We worked on our Blocks of the Week projects.  I got two blocks done and Rachel got three. HUMP. LOL

After working on our blocks, I went back to my Cricut machine and Design Space.  I created  a brand new video on using what we get in Cricut Access in order to create a NEW item.   I took a card that was designed as a Mother’s Day card and turned it into a Valentine’s Day card.  I don’t know about you, but it makes me so happy to use what I already have.  Check out the video below to see how easy it is!!

I LOVE MY CRICUT.

BTW, if you’d like to see some of the photos from today’s quilting, please check out my Facebook page.

Also, I would really appreciate it if you’d share my YouTube channel across social media and like it…if you do 🙂

Monkeys and Bears and Granny’s Choice Wall-hanging

I created this week’s Block of the Week, Granny’s Choice, in earth tones to coordinate with the bear shower curtain and the MONKEY????

Granny’s Choice was a lot of fun to create and very easy regardless of what my video bloopers may say. LOL  Link to the PDF is HERE. GrannysChoiceComplete

Below is my YouTube video in case you missed it.

In this video, I am adding the first leaf motif in the middle of each block.  After this was completed, I felt the blocks needed an additional leaf so I simply added a second one to the outside of the first.  I do think I still need to stitch in the ditch or something in the center four-square section.  Not sure what I’ll do yet.

This video shows how I marked and am sewing subsequent quilting. Prior to what you see here, I stitched in the ditchISH around the outside of all the triangles.  What this means is that I actually stitched about 1/4″ from the ditch.

And now….just for fun!!! I sure hope we do NOT have one of these visit our hummingbird feeders! We bring ours in at night because of the raccoons and bears.  Never thought there would be a bear at one in what appears to be the middle of the day!!!

Episode 3 – Podcast

[podbean resource=”episode=gxwge-6ce7dd” type=”audio-rectangle” height=”100″ skin=”1″ btn-skin=”107″ share=”1″ fonts=”Helvetica” auto=”0″ download=”0″ rtl=”0″]
This podcast includes me admitting (YIKES) that I was wrong, talking about a local quilt shop FUN evening, discussing the Farmer’s Wife quilt AND reviewing a new-to-me notion.

As I mentioned, Rachel and I got 10 patterns from our LQS last night. The patterns that I discussed are from The Quilt Company. You can get the patterns there for $2.50 I believe. Oh, except the one created with the half square triangles…the that I said I might create an embroidery for the center square BECAUSE that one was designed by Robyn (the shop owner). If you want that one try contacting Robyn on her FaceBook page.

The rulers that I spoke of are the two following ones. If you happen to purchase them through my Amazon link, I make a VERY small (think itsy BITSY) commission at no extra charge to you. Of course you can try your LQS FIRST!

This is a link to the Farmer’s Wife book. If you click on it you can see a LOT of pages from the book to get a good idea of how interesting it truly is. I understand the book comes with a CD that includes all the templates. Like I mentioned, I MAY use Marti Michell templates for mine. I’ve got to go to her blog to see which ones I’ll need to purchase. The only set I currently own is Set A.

That’s pretty much it EXCEPT for this old dog learning her new EQ7 tricks.

PLEASE look at the following diagram. Is it correct? Specifically I’m talking about the outer gray triangles.

EQ7 Test
PLEASE check!!   Am I on the right track with the gray triangles that are highlighted in yellow??

Oops….  the notion I reviewed is this one. I’ll show you how terrific it is in my next video.

Magic Points and “Interesting” Fabric Choice by LQS

My LQS is doing a block of the month using Marti Michell templates

Block of the month from LQS
Block of the Month LQS Fabrics

Quite honestly, this is the first BOM I’ve ever been involved in locally.  I AM  thoroughly enjoying cutting and stitching the blocks EXCEPT for the fabric my LQS chose.  I know, I know… beauty is in the eye of the beholder but do any of you see the beauty?? Maybe I should post a larger view!
As another example, here are a two more blocks.

Marti Michell Blocks
Two more blocks showing  LQS fabric choice

While I am using the fabrics chosen by my LQS for my Block of the Month, Rachel is creating blocks with fabrics she has chosen. What do you think?

To create our BOM blocks, we are using templates that are brand new to me – the 3″ Square Basic Set by Marti Michell.  Have you used her templates before? I LOVE how easy it is to match up pieces and POINTS for sewing AND there are no blasted dog ears to trim off.

Oh, in  addition to using the template set,  we added this book into the mix for MORE BLOCKS that can be created from this ONE SET.

Are you curious to see just what ONE SET of TEMPLATES can do??? Check out this very brief video.

Well, I better run! Gotta get this block done so that I can get the next one FREE from my LQS.

My mat and of course a steamy cup of COFFEE. 🙂

Do you have an Olfa Rotating Mat? Have you ever had trouble spinning your Olfa ‘Spinning’ Mat?

I recently had this problem when my friend Rachel, from Little Bird Quilting, came over to my house to play/sew. Since she was having an issue with my cutting mat, she gave me this GREAT TIP!

Is your mat a teeny bit sticky? Try Rachel’s helpful tip!

PattyAnne’s BOW #5 BONUS – Flower Pounding Part 2

To make your fabric ready for pounding, you will need to soak it for 5 minutes in Bubble Jet 2000 (See previous blog post for a link to the product.)

Flower Pounding Setup
Soaking the fabric for Flower Pounding

The directions on the bottle say to lay your fabric out flat but I didn’t do that. I’m thinking they say that in case you are doing yards of it.  My pieces measure approximately 12.5 x 11 inches.

So I put the folded up pieces in an old cottage cheese container and soaked them  for the 5 mins.  (I made sure I  kind of tapped them down so that all pieces/areas got wet from the solution. I also shook the bottle of Bubble Jet before using it.)

Flower Pounding Fabric Drying
Allowing the Flower Pounding Fabric to Dry

After the 5 minutes was up, I took the pieces out of the solution and squeezed them slightly to remove some of the solution and then I placed them on my cutting mat to dry.  When dry, I’ll iron them and they will be ready for the next part —- the FUN, EXCITING PART!    Don’t forget to pour the leftover Bubble Jet 2000 BACK INTO THE BOTTLE because it can be reused!!!

Ok, now for the recipe for the FAUX Bubble Jet 2000

2 Tablespoons of Alum (found in the spices section of your grocery store)

2.5 teaspoons of WASHING soda (NOT plain baking soda.  An example is Arm & Hammer Soda WASH)  If you cannot find it in the grocery store in the cleaning isle, you may find it at a hardware store such as ACE.  If all else fails, here is a link to a site that shows how to make your own.  I’ve not tried it, but……

1/2 teaspoon of liquid fabric softener

1 cup of HOT WATER

Mix all the above ingredients together in a bowl larger than you think you’ll need because it foams up.  After the foam dies down, you will be left with the liquid.  Soak your 100% cotton fabric in the solution for 5 – 10 minutes.  Lightly squeeze excess liquid from the fabric.  Hang fabric to dry.  When it is dry, iron it.  Again, put the leftover FAUX Bubble Jet 2000 in a LABELED container for future use.

Next up…. gather your flowers, leaves and ferns!

Happy Quilting!
